			<content:encoded><![CDATA[RE/MAX sales associates and support staff in more than fifty communities across the country threw their wholehearted support behind Yard Sale for the Cure this year, raising close to $115,000 in the annual event for breast cancer research and treatment.

“Yard Sale for the Cure 2008 was an overwhelming success,” says Christine Martysiewicz, Director of Public Relations, RE/MAX Ontario-Atlantic Canada. “The unbridled enthusiasm of RE/MAX sales associates and support staff more than made up for poor weather conditions in Ontario. With tractor-trailer loads of saleable treasures, live bands, and an overall commitment to
breast cancer research, the RE/MAX team proved unstoppable.”

RE/MAX has been involved with the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation and programs such as Primary Prevention Research, Run for the Cure, and Breast health care since 2004. Yard Sale for the Cure is yet another way in which RE/MAX and its sales associates can give back to the community. Each year, the event gains greater momentum within the RE/MAX organization. 

What started as a small local fundraiser in 2005 is now a massive national yard sale, thanks to the committed RE/MAX broker-owners, sales associates, and support staff who have worked tirelessly to raise awareness and gain the support of Canadians across the country “More Canadians than ever before are aware of the devastating impact of this horrific disease,” says Marie Sheppy, Senior Coordinator, Corporate Affairs, RE/MAX of Western Canada. “Yet, despite declining breast cancer death rates, one in nine women is expected to develop breast cancer during their lifetime and one in 28 will die of it. It’s imperative that we do our part to find
a cure and by participating in this event, held the last Saturday in May each year, we are taking steps to eradicate breast cancer, once and for all.”

Founded by breast cancer survivor Rachael Smith, and her husband, Andrew Howard in 2005,Yard Sale for the Cure has raised close to $300,000 to date. The assistance of corporate sponsors,such as RE/MAX, has helped bring Rachel’s dream to reality.
“RE/MAX has been instrumental in raising the profile of this event across the country,” saysSmith. “They’ve contributed to the enormous success of Yard Sale for the Cure in more ways than one by embracing and improving on the simple concept. This year, many offices took the yard sale one step further by creating a carnival-like atmosphere, bringing in food and entertainment, and truly making it the family event that I have always envisioned.”

central religious organization or a theological system but consists of thousands of different religious groups that evolved over thousands of years. Dasara is a festival followed by the Hindu community predominent in India, Nepal and Sril Lanka. <span id="more-145"></span>

To quote wikipedia: &#8220;Navratri in Gujarat holds a special significance and the Rasa and Garba dances by men and women of all sects to please the Goddess.The Dasara in Gujarat are followed by 9 nights of singing and dancing. Dasara, also called Navaratri, is among the most important festivals celebrated in India. Unlike the festival of Dussera &#8211; &#8220;the festival of joy,&#8221; this is celebrated for 10 days in some parts of the subcontinent.&#8221;

Symbolically, Dasara is the victory of good over evil. The most colorful and popular Dasara festival takes place in Mysore in Karnataka and in North India.

Broadly known as a month of fasting, this month has more significance than just refraining from food and drink. <img src="http://mahmudnaqvi.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/ramadhan.jpg" alt="ramadhan" title="ramadhan" width="336" height="108" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-120" />Food and drink restrictions are the tangible part much more important and significant is the spiritual involvement and its journey to excellence. <span id="more-119"></span>

Traditionally referred as a month in which the believing Muslim is a &#8220;guest&#8221; of God. As in congregational prayers being a community affair, this month has its importance of sharing what we possess. This reminds me of a beautiful saying I saw recently at a home:

<strong>&#8220;Live a simple life, so others may simply live!&#8221;</strong>

It is prescribed to invite our friends and families at Iftar[breaking the fast] which has turned out to be a huge affair with sumptuous gatherings that in turn boost our egos. The poor and needy are almost forgotten. The journey continues, some will succeed and many will fail, but try we must.

Best wishes to the Muslim community to strive and succeed in this blessed month. Before I windup this post, here is a prayer:
