Ramadhan Kareem
The blessed month of Ramadhan starts today in North America. Broadly known as a month of fasting, this month has more significance than just refraining from food and drink.
Food and drink restrictions are the tangible part much more important and significant is the spiritual involvement and its journey to excellence.
Traditionally referred as a month in which the believing Muslim is a “guest” of God. As in congregational prayers being a community affair, this month has its importance of sharing what we possess. This reminds me of a beautiful saying I saw recently at a home:
“Live a simple life, so others may simply live!”
It is prescribed to invite our friends and families at Iftar[breaking the fast] which has turned out to be a huge affair with sumptuous gatherings that in turn boost our egos. The poor and needy are almost forgotten. The journey continues, some will succeed and many will fail, but try we must.
Best wishes to the Muslim community to strive and succeed in this blessed month. Before I windup this post, here is a prayer:
“O He whose Name is a Remedy! Whose remembrance is a Cure, and His obedience is Wealth!
Have mercy upon him whose capital is hope and whose weapon is tears”
